Photo Editor - Paint.NET

Ever wonder how to crop your screenshot that you captured with your keyboard?

I am going to show you how easy it can be using one of those open source tools, Paint.NET, in 6 easy steps.
You can download a copy here - http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

Once you have downloaded and installed it, open up the program and follow the steps below.

  1. You might have seen 4 rectangles on each corner of your workspace (grey area), each have their own functions.
  2. File -> Open -> Select your image

(This is a sample screenshot of the thunderbird email client that I used for support)
You can download this sample here
  3. We will use the above sample image as this tutorial material. Let say that I want to crop out a portion of the sample image to be emailed to my support, I will select the ‘Rectangle Select’ tool (as shown in the above screenshot. If you were to move/hover your mouse on each item, you will also see a tooltip of the function).
  4. Next I am going to crop out the wording ‘Thunderbird Mail - customercare@webj2.com’.
On the screen below, you will notice 1 red cross, and 1 blue cross. 1st click on the ‘Rectangle Select’ tool. Then move your mouse over to the red cross and left-click and HOLD on to the click of your mouse.

  5. Then move your mouse over to the blue cross and let go of your finger. You will see something like this below

  6. Finally, go to Image -> Crop to selection. Save the image (File -> Save)

That’s it. Simple.
