This year Microsoft came up with Windows Vista and it looks brilliant. Every hoo-ha goes to them. I was thinking that Microsoft is going to engulf the entire globe again. Guess what - it’s a major flaw, it was so terrible that they are thinking of scrapping it off sooner than the market realises it, to be replaced with a new Windows 7 in Jan 2010.
Now 2008 is a good year for Linux. In fact there are alot of distro out there that can easily replace Windows XP/Vista. And here I am presenting to you an article on a Linux Desktop running on my Acer Extensa 4620 laptop.
Unlike Windows XP installation, this Linux allows me to boot into the Desktop as a Live CD. It allows me to explore Linux before any real installation - great! You see, I have been playing with Linux on my PC for sometime already but installing it into a laptop is new to me. Afterall, most laptop brands use proprietary drivers and Linux might not function properly on such hardwares. After exploration, I decided to give it a try.
While I am in the Live CD mode, I will have to click on the Install button and it will start off the installation in graphical mode - Marvelous. The installation is real fast, and it finished off in a short 15 minutes. Then I restart the laptop. Upon booting up, I was presented with 2 selections (Linux OS or Windows XP), and I will just have to choose Linux OS to begin my journey.
Here is a couple of my screenshots, enjoy
