Hardware

IBM Servers

All along we have been fixing our servers using specially chosen hardwares for our support, but today my boss has decided to purchase a few IBM Servers to boost our hardware performances.

These beasts are running on Dual-Core 64-bit AMD Opteron chipset and is able to support up to 8GB of Memory. So I decided to take it to a test against our servers.

  • Test Machine (AMD Athlon 64X2, 8GB Memory with 1 SATAII HDD)
  • IBM Machine (Dual-Core 64bit AMD Opteron, 2GB ECC Memory with 1 SATAI HDD)

When I switched IBM on, I heard a loud roar for a few seconds and then it runs quietly afterwards. I did the usual Linux server installation, configuration, setup and to my surprise - it is up and running in less than 15 minutes.

WOW, it’s about 2 times faster than our fastest server.
